REFUND & CANCELLATION POLICY
You are paying a deposit toward a device that does not exist yet. That deserves a policy stated in plain terms rather than buried in terms of sale.
The short version
- Your deposit is fully refundable until manufacturing begins on your unit.
- We tell you in writing before that point is reached.
- Once titanium is cut against your order, the deposit is non-refundable, because the material and machine time are spent.
- If the production run never happens, every deposit is returned in full.
Before manufacturing begins
Request a refund at support@hardgap.com from the address on your account. We return the full deposit to the original payment method. Refunds are issued through Stripe and typically settle in five to ten business days depending on your bank; the timing after we issue it is not something we control.
You do not need a reason.
After manufacturing begins
When the production run is funded and scheduled, we email every deposit holder with the date manufacturing starts and a deadline for cancelling without penalty. After that deadline:
- Standard Edition — the deposit becomes non-refundable, because your unit's material and machine time have been committed.
- Founders Edition — the deposit becomes non-refundable once your engraving is committed to the tool path. A card engraved with your text has no resale value to anyone else.
This is the point at which your money becomes titanium. We will not let it pass without telling you first.
The balance payment
The remaining balance is charged separately, after manufacturing begins and before your card ships. Nothing is charged automatically — we email you and you pay it deliberately. If you do not pay the balance, your unit is not shipped and your deposit is treated under the rules above.
If the run does not happen
If we conclude the production run will not proceed, every deposit is refunded in full, without you having to ask. Deposits are held against the run they were placed for and are not spent on operating expenses.
Founders Edition sold out after you paid
There are exactly 100 Founders numbers. They are assigned by an atomic database operation at the moment payment clears, so two people cannot receive the same number. If you pay for a Founders card and the last number is claimed in the same instant, your payment is refunded automatically — you do not need to contact us — and you are emailed to explain what happened. This is a race we designed for rather than one we hope does not occur.
Damaged, defective, or wrong on arrival
If your card arrives damaged, defective, or not matching your order — including an incorrect engraving that differs from what you submitted — contact us within 14 days of delivery with photographs. We replace it or refund it in full, including return shipping. This is separate from the deposit rules above and is not affected by them.
The hardware warranty is twelve months from delivery and is set out in the terms of sale.
Change of mind after delivery
Standard Edition, unopened and uninitialized: return within 30 days of delivery for a full refund, less return shipping. The seal on the card must be intact.
Once a card has been initialized: no return. A signer that has generated a seed cannot be resold to anyone, and we will not resell one. This is a property of what the device is, not a restocking policy.
Founders Edition: no return once engraved. A card cut with your text has no value to any other buyer.
Where local law grants you a statutory right of withdrawal that exceeds the above, that right applies and this section does not limit it.
Changing your engraving
You can change your engraving text at any time before your unit enters manufacturing — email us. After the tool path is committed, it cannot be changed, and a card cut with the wrong text because you asked for the wrong text is not a defect.
Export restrictions
Cryptographic hardware is subject to export control in some jurisdictions. If we cannot lawfully ship to your destination, we tell you before charging your balance and refund your deposit in full.
